Settling In

Here's our cottage!!

Fun little place, eh?  It was built in 1931.  The front porch is screened, and a really nice spot to sit in the evenings.  The upstairs windows are bedrooms.  There were originally four bedrooms upstairs, but one of them has been turned into a bathroom.  Literally, it's a bath-room.  The only thing in it is a bathtub.  (There's an upstairs bathroom with just a toilet and sink as well.)  On the main floor there's first the front porch, then a living room (a small space, with a grand piano in it of course), a dining room, a kitchen on one side toward the back of the house and a laundry room/utility room across the rest of the back.

Here's our cottage from a distance, so you can get a feel for location.  Our place is in the middle of the three homes you see here.  There are only two more houses to the left of this picture, and then the street ends at a dead end.  When I took this picture, I was standing at the edge of the beach.  Here's the view to my left (on a different day):

and to my right:

It's a pretty beautiful setup!

The cottage came furnished, and we had fun looking around and moving furniture to suit our needs.  Marijka fell in love with this big dresser, so we moved it into her room:

(Here she's unpacking her treasures: Playmobil, and spy gear.)

I claimed this old desk!

My favourite part of the house is the doors.  I love the big frames around each door, I love the windows up above, I love the dark wood....

This is the upstairs: a small hallway with doors
leading to the bedrooms and bathroom.

And a few other glimpses of the inside....

Dining room: Aidan feeling quite rich holding some of the gold-plated dishes.

Living room: the half that doesn't have the grand piano in it.  :)
I'm sitting on the piano bench for this photo.
